Thursday August 7th, Kaui

Kaui is known as The Garden Island and it is easy to see why. It is incredibly lush.
We met Scotty our friendly hippie surfer dude taxi driver. Dad bargained w/ him to take us all over the west of the island.

We saw a huge water fall, and then he took us to the Waimea Canyon. Waimea Canyon is so gorgeous! It is known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. It was so colorful and just breathtakingly beautiful. We saw a few mountain goats, and there was a large waterfall too.

Chickens are EVERYWHERE in Kaui. They also have these really pretty cardinals w/ only a red head. They look like our red cardinals w/ clothes on.

At one of our stops we were 4,000 feet above sea level. We saw some blowhole cave thingys too. They are like an upside down waterfall. The caves formed by the lava rock spew the water out when the waves wash up. The sound is really cool.

Scott picked us some Guava fruit to sample from the trees on the side of the road. Our last stop was a 20 something foot waterfall. We had quite a hike through some sugar cane, and came to the river. Mike actually jumped over the fall into the pool below. Dad and I were too chicken. During the hike Mike was worried about Veloceorapters jumping out…Jurassic Park anyone??

It was just a day full of gorgeous views. We went back to our room after the 6 hour tour, with intentions of just taking a nap. It was 4:30 pm, we never woke up! Well, I slept, Mike watched a couple of movies.
